The following is a sampling of businesses that have established locations or expanded operations already based in the St. Louis area in 2005.
Access Point Medical - Access Point Medical, LLC, a Greenwich, Conn.-based manufacturer of home health care products, invested $1 million in a new facility in Creve Coeur, Mo. and created 12 new jobs.
American Healthways - The Nashville-based American Healthways is expanding its St. Louis County client care center. The company is creating 40 new jobs, primarily registered nurses, and making a $2 million capital investment at its facility in Maryland Heights, Mo. American Healthways is a disease and care management company providing services to over one million and 50,000 physicians.
Chrysler St. Louis North and St. Louis South Assembly Plants - Chrysler Group is investing $1 billion in the St. Louis North and St. Louis South Assembly Plants in Fenton, Mo. The $1 billion investment will be shared between the two plants and is expected to give both plants additional state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities. The St. Louis South Plant currently employs 3,200 and manufactures the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan and the Grand Caravan Minivan. The St. Louis North plant is home to the Dodge Ram Standard and Quad Cab Pickup and employs 2,300 workers.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car - Enterprise Rent-A-Car broke ground in late October on a 140,000-square-foot addition to its 21-acre campus in Weldon Spring, Mo. in St. Charles County. The new facility will eventually house 750 employees and is slated for completion in November 2006. An estimated 350 information system employees currently work a 120,000-square-foot data center on the campus. The increased staff at the expanding St. Charles County location will come through a combination of employee transfers from Enterprise's headquarters in Clayton, Mo. and new hires.
Express Scripts - After considering locations across the country, the St. Louis-based Express Scripts, a Fortune 500 pharmacy benefits manager, is building a new $50-million, 320,000-square-foot headquarters in St. Louis County. The headquarters will be the first tenant in a new business park on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis. As many as 480 new jobs will be created, as well as 1,100 jobs retained.
Gateway Packaging - Gateway Packaging plans to add up to 20 jobs at its plant in Granite City, Ill. The company specializes in "flexible" packaging - the bags, pouches and labels used in human and pet food industries. The company currently employs about 110 at its Granite City facility.
Global Automotive Parts Group - Global Automotive Parts Group plans to invest $1 million to expand its facility in Pacific, Mo., and add up to 50 new jobs when its expansion is complete. A division of the Los Angeles-based Walker Products Inc., Global Automotive Parts manufactures aftermarket fuel system components and engine management products.
Harman Becker - Harman Becker Automotive Systems, a division of German-based Harman International, is investing $26 million in a new facility in Washington, Mo. Harman Becker will produce automobile components in the facility, which will supply the two DaimlerChrysler plants in Fenton, Mo. and will create 200 new jobs.
Kane Veterinary Supplies Ltd.- Kane Veterinary Supplies, based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, established its first U.S. facility in the Westport Industrial Park in Maryland Heights, Mo. Kane is a distributor of agricultural supplies, animal vaccines and pet supplies with three locations in Canada. The company will distribute a new line of pet supplies to five major U.S. wholesalers from its St. Louis operation. The 10,000-square-foot facility will employ 14 and represents a $1 million capital investment.
KV Pharmaceutical Co. - KV Pharmaceutical, a manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals, invested $135 million in three facilities in St. Louis County. The facilities involve both R&D and manufacturing functions and will create 300 new jobs.
McCormick Scientific - The St. Louis-based McCormick Scientific purchased Paraplast Embedding Media and relocated the company to St. Louis County from Commerce, Tex. Paraplast is a brand of paraffin wax used by pathologists to give body to tissue samples for lab analysis. The company established operations in a 20,000-square-foot facility in Earth City, Mo. creating 20 new jobs and $1.5 million in capital investment.
Olin Corporation - Olin Corp. relocated its headquarters and 10 jobs from Norwalk, Conn. to Clayton, Mo. Olin, a Fortune 1000 company, is a manufacturer of ammunition, metals, and chemicals that employs approximately 5,800 people nationwide. The company’s Winchester Ammunition and Olin Brass divisions are based in East Alton, Ill.
Pfizer Inc. - Pfizer is constructing a 330,000-square-foot research building at its Chesterfield, Mo. campus. The building will house approximately 250 researchers engaged in drug discovery. Researchers at Pfizer in Chesterfield are focusing on potential medicines to treat cardiovascular disease, pain and inflammation, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and respiratory diseases. The new facility will bring the total number of Pfizer employees located at the Chesterfield site to slightly over 1,000.
Sequoia Sciences- The San Diego-based start-up Sequoia Sciences, and emerging leader in drug discovery, is relocating its headquarters to St. Louis County. The company plans to locate in a $6.5 million facility in Webster Groves, Mo. Sequoia is developing drugs to treat chronic bacterial infections and other diseases in partnership with Washington University in St. Louis and other research centers across the country. Sequoia also has a partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden. The company will employ approximately 25 at the new headquarters.
World Wide Technology Inc. - World Wide Technology Inc., a St. Louis-based systems integrator that provides technology and supply chain solutions to international clients, has leased 297,095 square feet of office and warehouse space at the 2,300-acre Gateway Commerce Center in Madison County, Ill. The new space will serve as a logistics management center for World Wide.
