LEED Certified Construction and Design



St. Louis is one of the leading metropolitan areas in green building nationally. St. Louis was ranked 9th in the U.S. for the number of LEED-certified buildings by the U.S Green Building Council in 2007. This includes construction firm, Alberici Group’s, LEED Platinum headquarters, one of only nine in the world at this level in 2006. "The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings."

By November 2009, Greater St. Louis had 39 LEED certified projects including 3 LEED Platinum, 11 Gold, and 10 Silver as well as another 165 LEED Registered projects. These include Monsanto’s $21 million LEED Gold data center, one of three in the U.S. in 2008. St. Louis Community College’s new Wildwood, MO campus, completed in 2007, is another major LEED Gold project. The cities of St. Louis and Clayton both require new city buildings to be LEED Silver certified.

St. Louis-based HOK is the world’s largest architectural firm and the first to have 100 LEED accredited professionals. By late 2009, they had 900 LEED accredited professionals making sustainable design central to their work. HOK was ranked the top “Green Design Firm” in the U.S. in 2008 by Engineering News-Record. Greater St. Louis has many large, national and regional, green construction and design firms. Engineering News-Record ranked Greater St. Louis based Clayco 22nd, McCarthy 32nd, and Korte Company 92nd on its 2009 list of top “Green Contractors.”
