The following is a sampling of businesses that have established locations or expanded operations already based in the St. Louis area in 2010.
Convergys Corp. - Convergys, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a global leader in relationship management. Convergys plans to hire 200 people at its sales center in Hazelwood, MO and 240 at its sales center in Arnold, MO. The new employees at the Hazelwood sales center will provide outbound sales support for a client in the landscaping industry, and the Arnold new hires will provide customer service and sales support for a telecommunications company.
Legacy Pharmaceutical - Legacy Pharmaceutical Packaging, based in St. Louis, is an independent contract pharmaceutical packaging company. The company is adding two new production lines to its business and hiring 30 new employees. This is a total capital investment of about $2 million.
United Healthcare- United Healthcare of the Midwest, based in St. Louis, repositioned its call center in Maryland Heights, MO. In this process, United Healthcare added 175 new jobs at the facility. The call center will handle physicians' benefit questions and administration and claims processing. The company employs more than 1,000 people locally.
Allsup Inc. - Allsup Inc., based in Belleville, IL, is a provider of Social Security Disability Insurance services. The company has been experiencing a growth period as a growing number of baby boomers begin retiring. In response to this sudden surge, Allsup is hiring 90 new employees. The company represented 30,000 people filing SSDI benefits claims last year.
Alpla Inc. - Alpla Inc., headquartered in Austria, is a privately-held manufacturer of plastic packaging solutions, has selected the St. Louis region for a new 83,500-square-foot manufacturing plant in St. Peters, MO. The new facility will service current and new customers located in the St. Louis region. Alpla will initially hire 50 new employees and invest $14 million in total capital investment.
Spartech Corp. - St. Louis-based Spartech Corp. is a leading producer of plastic sheet, compounds, and packaging products. The new Technology and Innovation Center is a 90,000-square-foot facility located in Maryland Heights, MO. The new facility is four times the size of existing research centers and will employ 40 scientists, engineers and commercial development specialists.
Sensient Technologies Corp. - Sensient Technologies Corp., headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is planning to expand their Color Group headquarters in St. Louis. The $16 million expansion will include an additional 25,000-square-foot facility. Sensient is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of colors, flavors and fragrances for food and beverage products.
Procter & Gamble - Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble has leased a 502,500-square-foot building in Sauget, IL. The company will be located in the 255 Logistics Center building, and is one of the largest industrial tenants in the region with 3 million square feet of space. P&G will be moving the distribution of its home care products, including Cascade and Mr. Clean, to the new space. The project is estimated at $1.8 million.
Unisys - A Fortune 500 worldwide information technology company will be locating an Application Modernization Center of Excellence in downtown St. Louis. The company plans to employ 300 IT professionals in software architecture, design, development, maintenance, modernization and support by 2012. The new Unisys Center of Excellence will focus on building, operating and maintaining leading-edge software applications for Unisys federal government and commercial clients. The center will eventually deliver value-added and differentiated services, such as Apple iPhone and Apple iPad application development and data warehousing.
Express Scripts, Inc. - Express Scripts, one of the largest pharmacy benefit management companies in North America, opened a new $60 million pharmacy automation center in north St. Louis County. The Technology and Innovation Center will dispense 500,000 pills per hour and package and ship up to 110,000 prescriptions a day. The company will be adding 300 new jobs at the 224,000-square-foot high-tech facility. The new Home Delivery pharmacy at the Center is the most advanced in the Express Scripts Home Delivery system, which has an accuracy rate greater than 99.99%.
Contegix - Contegix, a privately held technology firm specializing in web hosting and infrastructure, will be doubling its St. Louis-based staff from 20 to 40 by the end of 2010. The company is expanding to support a new data center in London.
Liberty Mutual - Liberty Mutual, the fifth largest P&C insurance company, is adding 55,000 square feet at its office space in unincorporated St. Louis County near Fenton, MO. The company's expansion will create 100 new full-time jobs over the next two years. The combined investment will be about $3 million.
Sheet Metal Workers - Sheet Metal Workers of Local 36 will be relocating their headquarters to the Chouteau Crossing development in St. Louis. The new $15 million, 96,023-square-foot facility will house all training and business operations. There will be a Sheet Metal Workers Training School, a 500 seat auditorium and the Union's business offices. The Training School will train members on state-of-the-art HVAC technology. The building will be LEED Platinum, the highest-rated LEED certified building in Missouri.
Christian Homes Inc. - Christian Homes Inc. is relocating its headquarters from Lincoln, IL to Creve Coeur, MO. The company is a nonprofit which operates 16 senior living campuses in five states. The move will bring 30 workers to the new Creve Coeur location. The company plans to expand throughout Missouri and other Midwestern states.
Tech Aerospace - Tech Aerospace Group Inc., a Kansas City airplane parts manufacturer, is planning to build a $17.5 million facility in Washington, Missouri. The new 75,000-square-foot plant will employ 100 workers with an average salary of $40,000. Over the next three years, they plan to expand to 220 employees.
Medical Transportation Management - Medical Transportation Management Inc. plans to add 30 new workers to its corporate headquarters in Lake St. Louis. The company provides non-emergency medical-related transportation services throughout Missouri. The new annual contract value is $26 million.
The Boeing Company - Boeing announced that it will be expanding its St. Louis-area operations by opening a new manufacturing plant at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, Illinois. The company will lease an existing 50,000-square-foot facility and will be operational by late 2010 or early 2011. The expansion will create 75 new manufacturing jobs focusing on assembly and sub-assembly work.
Leinco Technologies, Inc. - Leinco Technologies, a St. Louis-based, specialty manufacturer that provides research and manufacturing services for biotechnology, pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries. The company will be expanding into a 27,000-square-foot facility located in Fenton, MO. Currently the company is located in unincorporated St. Louis County. With the expansion, Leinco will also be adding 48 new full-time positions. The total project investment is $3.2 million.
U.S. Department of Agriculture - The USDA will be adding 400 new jobs to their new location in Overland, Missouri. The new National Operations Center is expected to open in late 2011 bringing 100 full-time jobs and 300 part-time jobs. The site is a former U.S. Army federal records center, and is currently being converted to receive LEED silver certification. There are plans to invest $35 million into these improvements over the next five years.
Express Scripts Inc. - Express Scripts, a St. Louis-based pharmacy benefits manager, is planning a $70 million expansion of its headquarters in north St. Louis County. The expansion is an addition of a 227,000-square-foot office building located in NorthPark. Approximately 1,500 employees will move into the new space, and they will be adding 150 new jobs with an average annual salary of $60,000 a year. The new offices will house Express' Scripts IT data center. The expansion also includes the addition of a new pharmaceutical dispensing line at the company's filler pharmacy. The project is receiving $10 million in state and local incentives, and should be completed by fourth quarter of 2011.
