In rolling out the welcome mat at Helix Center Biotech Incubator, St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley and St. Louis County Economic Council President & CEO Denny Coleman launched a new phase of the region’s biotech growth.

LOUIS – June 25, 2012 – While the country was steeped in a recession, and unemployment almost doubled, the economic impact of St. Louis arts and culture increased by 4% to $582.3 million and employment in the sector grew by 14% to support 10,046 full-time equivalent jobs*, according to Arts & Economic Prosperity IV.

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA) today announced that Rich Conner, superintendent of administration for Ameren Illinois’ Division V territory, has been named RCGA senior advisor on regional development, a newly-created position. Conner is on loan from Ameren and serves on the RCGA senior management team, reporting to RCGA President & Chief Executive Officer Joe Reagan. Conner’s appointment is effective today and he is based at the RCGA’s offices at One Metropolitan Square in downtown St. Louis.

West Plains, Mo. –Air Evac Lifeteam, a leading provider of air medical transportation to rural communities, today announced that it will open a new corporate headquarters building in O’Fallon, in St. Charles County, Missouri. This move is part of a major expansion of its facilities that will enhance the Company’s ability to deliver air medical transportation services throughout the country and position it for future growth. The move from West Plains, Missouri, will bring upwards of 120 employees to O’Fallon and is expected to begin this summer with the recruitment of as many as 70 new employees in a variety of operational areas.

In his recent story, "Why college graduates matter" (May 31) Tim Logan accurately reported that the economic vitality of a metropolitan area in today's knowledge economy is directly tied to the educational attainment of the region's workforce. According to CEOs for Cities data, every one percentage point increase in adult four-year college degree attainment adds an additional $763 to per-capita income per year. CEOs for Cities calls it the "talent dividend" and groups across our region are working to ensure that St. Louis and its citizens see that kind of payoff.

ST. LOUIS -- With the Cardinals projected to again attract 3.1 million fans this season, the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association (RCGA) estimates that the economic impact of the 2012 Cardinal season on the St. Louis region will be approximately $322 million, according to a just-completed analysis conducted by the RCGA’s Chief Economist Ruth Sergenian.

ST. LOUIS -- The “Sweet 16” and “Elite 8” rounds of the NCAA Tournament are back in the Gateway City as Saint Louis University hosts the Midwest Regional. This marks SLU’s first time as a Regional host. The 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional, which starts Friday, March 23rd and runs through Sunday, March 25th, marks the fourth time in the past eight years that the NCAA’s Men’s Road to the Final Four has passed through St. Louis with post-season play.

ST. LOUIS -- The 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships, which start Thursday March 15th, and run through Saturday, March 17st, will bring both tangible and intangible benefits to the St. Louis region. In a just-concluded economic impact study conducted by the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA), Chief Economist Ruth Sergenian, notes, “The NCAA Wrestling Championships will have a projected overall economic impact on the St. Louis region of some $14.7 million, with an estimated $7.6 million in direct spending by visiting fans on admissions, concessions, hotels, meals and in-town travel, and an additional $7.1 million in indirect impact, as those dollars circulate through the St. Louis economy.”

The new president of the Regional Chamber and Growth Association, effective Wednesday, Reagan has been bouncing all week, from sit-downs with elected officials to soirees with the business community, where one person after another wants to say hi and bend his ear.
