State Training Programs
To keep their work forces at the forefront of the ever-evolving business world, Missouri and Illinois are committed to providing the professional and technical training resources businesses need to stay abreast of new ideas and best-practices in several industries.
The Employer Training Investment Program provides financial assistance to Illinois manufacturing companies who retain existing employees in new technologies or improve their current quality or productivity systems. The program offers grants of up to 50 percent of a company’s total training costs (up to $1,500 a person). Training must be provided for incumbent workers, and the company’s sales must be less than $100 million annually with less than 20 percent pre-tax income.
Illinois also offers single and multiple-company training programs, as well as a large company component, all of which are designed to help the state retain and train its workforce through grants to local businesses companies.
More information on Illinois’ state training programs is available at the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Workforce Development Web site.
The Missouri Customized Training Program assists employers with funding for classroom training and retraining of new and existing employees. Employers can apply for financial assistance for curriculum development, instructional salaries, and training materials. Training can be provided by local education agencies, private vendors or company personnel.
The Missouri Community College New Jobs Training Program provides employee training to companies that are creating a substantial number of new jobs in the state — either through work force expansion or relocating a facility here. Training activities can include skill assessment, orientation, pre-employment training, occupational skill training and on-the-job training.
